To Microsoft: If you want your web office to work, get rid of the horrible and pathetic picture ads

I spent a lot of time the past week back in the Microsoft world trying to figure out what role asp.net will play in my services and products.  I heard that Microsoft launched their web office products that will compete with Google Apps.  Since I'm a big Google Apps guy I decided to checkout office.live.com.

After I created my first word document I was greeted with this pleasant ad next to my list of web documents:

Liveoffice_ads

We all know that Microsoft gains ground when they copy from other people so they should take a look at how Google uses ads in their office apps because this ad horrible and puts a bad face on their product.  It looks like the poorly designed large ads that are on Hotmail and MSN have found their way into the office apps.

Ads aside, the actual office apps editors looks like they have a lot of promise.  The user interface is a bit slow and clunky. Looking at the features, Google Apps give you more.  It will be interesting to see how Microsoft develops this because competition is good.
